An ASPI layer consists of four files [see gray box below] that 'lie between' various programs [software] and certain devices, such as CD/DVD-ROM drives and CD/DVD burners/writers [hardware]. Software programs such as CD digital audio extractors [commonly known as 'Rippers'] and CD-writing utilities such as CDRWin.

Looks like there may be some help here: Windows 2000 and Windows XP Issues Many people have problems running CDex with the Windows 2000 operation system or Windows XP, but it should work ( many people have already confirmed that it works on Windows XP). However, you have to make sure that you have installed the proper ASPI drivers that are supported under Win2K or Windows XP. You might try to the to install the following nt_wnaspi32.zip file, some ppl have succesfully used it in conjunction with CDex. More information on ASPI drivers for Windows XP can be found on the following pages.
CD/DVD drives are one of the most important parts of a personal computer's multimedia capability. CD/DVD drives are can play host to multimedia files such as audio, video and pictures. Sometimes an error message may pop up about a missing or corrupted ASPI driver. These drivers are the integral bridges between the hardware and software, without which multimedia capabilities would be severely affected.
The easiest way to solve this issue is to download and install the latest version of the ASPI drivers from relevant websites.
