Following the instructions in this manual will enable you to obtain optimum. Long period of time, the built-in amp protection circuit may be activated.
HOW TO SETUP ONKYO TX-NR609 RECEIVER REVIEW, SURROUND SOUND CONNECTING 5.1 or 7.1 SPEAKERS & CALIBRATE SPEAKERS, on Onkyo Remote press 'receiver' then 'setup' button go to 'hardware' then 'hdmi control' set to 'on' using 'ARC' audio return channel will take out the need to use any audio cables like optical audioout on tv to Receiver optic input since the recvr. HDmi out is an audio input as well if the ARC setting under hardware hdmi is ON & the Hdmi cable out to TV ARC input (hdmi1 or 2) is set on tv as well. This will also turn Recvr on when you turn ON the TV so the 2 are in Sync.
To activate the 'port' ipod modeb just press 'port' then 'THX' button a couple times (its clearish white middle button) Onkyo is an Universal remote that can be programmed to all your devices too just hold BD/DVD & display then plug in the code of the device. Its defaulted to Scientific Atlanta cable box so no need to even program that.
Hi, I have just purchased the Onkyo AVX-380 from Comet and I'm having a few teething problems. Basically I cant get sound from the front speakers in 5.1 mode (have tried my HTPC, XBOX360 and PS3, all via HDMI.made all the correct changes within the device settings etc, but will not play sound from the front speakers). Even if I enter the onkyo setup and check the front speakers through 'Level Cal', same problem persists (no white noise from fronts).Odd thing is, if I enable anologue mode 'Speakers B', the front speakers kick in (but all the rest turn off).so I know the wiring is correct. Also one more problem, the rear speakers switch when my HTPC is enabled (left becomes right and vice versa.running audio over HDMI via an ATI 4870). Do I have a faulty amp, or can it be sorted via some tinkering.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I have just purchased the Onkyo AVX-380 from Comet and I'm having a few teething problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Click to expand.Hi. I also have this system but it is boxed up for a house move, Ive only tested it once. Are you sure you dont have the front speakers connected into 'speakers b' terminals. Speakers B connections are the small push type terminals beside the surround terminals.
It would be a very easy mistake. With regard to the surrounds switching, Im not sure. When I was doing a lot of reading on Onkyo receivers before I purchased this system I am sure something similiar came up. Sorry, I have no idea what thread. Hopefully someone will come along and help you out more. I have also recently purchased an AVX-380 from comet, the surround speakers swapping is a problem known to Onkyo and they have a service notice on there site.
If the final letter of your HT-R380 receivers serial number is a 'C' it has already had the problem rectified (luckily the serial number is visible from outside of the box so this can be confirmed before purchasing). GenServe (Onkyo authorised repairers based in swindon) are able to repair the problem (update the firmware) and will organise a courier pickup, or you may be able to take it down and they will do it while you wait. Well, I double checked my serial number and it ends in an 'a'. Like I said, its all boxed up read to move house so cant confirm but I also spoke with Genserve and it seems like it will definitely have this problem. Its only 26 days old but going by past dealings with Currys they will not swap it out for a new one. I am also hesitant to send it away incase it comes back marked or something. I was planning anyway to switch my ps3 for a slim version and this would also eliminate my need to use pcm.
However, I may also want to hook my pc soundcard up to it or another piece of gear in the future. So, I might be as well getting it picked up.
Hi all, been looking to get this package (or the HT-S3305), read a few threads, both seems to be very much the same spec apart from the speakers looking different, personally I actually prefer this AVX380 speaker designs, and also the 5% off is still valid on Comet (but need to spend 1p more to get to £300 to qualify ), so it makes this package from Comet quite tempting, but as with the HTS3305, the HTR308 receiver has firmware issues causing the swapped rear surround via HDMI PCM. And annoyingly Comet actually says 'ONKYO AVX-380(B)' in the title for the package, so I take it B is for the serial number ending in B? So most likely still have the swapped rear surround problem? Are there actually any stores that have the new stock with fixed firmware with the serial ending in C? Also quite fussy about my electrical equiments and their conditions so wouldn't like to send something brand new away for repair which might end up getting marked or damaged. It's annoying there is no way for consumers to update the firmware of these AV receivers by themselves at home (like BD, DVD players etc) Anybody have a HTR380 receiver with a serial ending in B, still have this swapped rear surround problem? Click to expand.Hi, as far as Im aware that (B) you are referring to is the colour of the receiver.
I also have the B yet my serial number ends in A. I suppose you could always ask in store if they could check their stock and find one with a serial number ending in C or above.
The number is visible on the outside of the box. You can update the firmware of some Onkyo receivers yourself but not this one.; Dont know why. I am also concerned about sending my new system away and having it come back marked or broken.
But I will still have to send it I think, for peace of mind. Just phoned up my local comet to check for stock and serial number, as expected she wasn't aware of this firmware/software problem, but to my suprise the lady on the phone was still quite helpful, checked but only 1 instock, and then asked the stock manager to go and check the serial number on the box, but unfortunately the serial ends in A, so pretty much guaranteed to have the problem right? Asked her whether they can order new stock in, she said she can, but no guarantee the serial will end in C.
Don't know what to do now, the 5% off code I think ends tonight, and really don't want to gamble and ends up having to send it down to Swindon for repair. @Liketobuycheap can you please check whether your 'A model' have the swapped surround problem using PCM over HDMI?
Set PS3 or Bluray player to decode the HD audio, and then output it as LPCM via HDMi to the Onkyo. Optical connector (sometimes called TOSLINK) This connection has limited bandwidth and can only supply Dolby Digital (Bitstream) DTS (Bitstream) PCM (2 channel stereo) HDMI connector (in brackets is the minimum revision of HDMI needed for that format) Dolby Digital (Bitstream 1.1) DTS (Bitstream 1.1) Dolby Digital plus (Bitstream 1.3) Dolby TrueHD (Bitstream 1.3) DTS HD (Bitstream 1.3) PCM Multichannel (1.1) Ok, from the above list you can see that HDMI can do a lot more than optical. So, surely this is the best way to go, correct? A little bit about PCM (and LPCM) and bitstream. PCM stands for (Linear) Pulse code modulation.
This is an uncompressed stream of audio. As it is uncompressed, a lot of information is sent along your interconnect cables.
This is why the limited bandwidth of an optical connection only allows a stereo PCM signal to be carried. Bitstream is a compressed signal (sometime lossless, sometimes lossy). Download Video Jurus Tunggal Ipsi Mp4.
This is why a bitstream 5.1 signal can be sent over optical. Because it is compressed, effectively more information can be sent.
However, even compressed, optical cannot handle the new HD formats as they still exceed the optical connections limits. Now, for bitstream to end up coming out of your speakers it has to be de-compressed. This can happen in your player or in your amp.
The difference? Well, if you decode in the amp it will tell you which format it is decoding and outputting.
If it is decoded by your player, the amp is only getting uncompressed sound, it does not know what compression method was used (DolbyTrueHD, DTS HD etc). This is why, when you decode the audio in a player the amp will only show 'Multich' and the pretty lights on the amp will not light up. 2010-05-18 Dear customer It has been brought to our attention that under certain circumstances the left and right channel output of AV receiver models. TX-SR308, TX-SR508, HT-R380, HT-R538, HT-R580, HTX-22HDX.is reversed for the surround speakers.
This only occurs when the audio output of the source device (e.g. Blu-ray player) is set to 'multichannel PCM' mode. If you experience swapped surround channels as described above, please contact the ONKYO Service at E-Mail: Phone: +49-8142-4401-0 Option #3 (Service/Repair). My serial number ends with an 'A' from Comet, and the only other one they had in stock also ended with an 'A', they weren't very helpful when I went in and complained and were awkward when I asked them to check the serial number of the other one in stock. They were going to get a manager but then he/she didn't come out. They said they would be willing to send it to Genserve (apparently the use the manufactures warranty in the first year even if you've purchased the extended warranty) and they would do a full report on it before sending it so you have evidence of any bumps or scratchs, they weren't really sure how long it would take any where from a week to a month, I'll probably end up taking it down to Genserve myself (apparantly this won't invalidate any extended warranties with Comet).
The way I tested it was using a phat PS3 and THX Optimizer found on most Pixar DVD's (and others), switching from bitstream to PCM caused the rear test tones to swap position. I then tested it with another DVD player and a PC with the same effect (so I could be sure it wasn't just the PS3). Click to expand. Thanks for the undate. So several people with this AVX380 and also the HTS3305 (both these AV system packages with the HTR380 receiver) have confirmed they have this swapped surround problem, really have put me off buying the current batch of stock, really don't want to send a brand new receiver away for repairs. Just went to Comet today and had a look and still like the package a lot, but will wait till a batch that has the serial ending in C before I'm buying, was hoping to use a 5% off code, but looks unlikely now. Did the Genserve guy say there are any 'C' stock about at all?
Or is Comet wait till they have sold out all the faulty stock before they re-stock? Click to expand.
That's the thing, now that we know this problem is confirmed, it's a constant worry/niggle, I know it's a very specific type of 'problem', only happens if you use LPCM via HDMI, you can avoid it by bitstreaming etc, but still, it just feels wrong to spend all this money buying a slightly 'faulty' product, a not fully functional product, what happens if I happen to buy a device in the future that requires LPCM via HDMI? Also I gave the Comet online sales number a call, and suprisingly managed to convince them to call the warehouse to check the serial number of the box, and unfortunately he confirmed all ends with 'A', so even if you hoped by buying online they might have newer stocks, then it's sorely disappointed. Actually quite disappointed with Onkyo, releasing a product that's not fully functional, it's supposed to be new season product as well, feels so amateur to have this firmware problem, it's understandable if a problem developes over time after use, but a problem straight away brand new out of the box? Not enough testing before release I'm afraid.
Hi all, finally caved in and bought this package from Comet online, needing a good home cinema kit for the bedroom and this fits the bill & budget, was hoping buying online might have newer batch of stock, but unfortunately it's the same serial A batch. I also have this system but it is boxed up for a house move, Ive only tested it once. Are you sure you dont have the front speakers connected into 'speakers b' terminals. When I was doing a lot of reading on Onkyo receivers before I purchased this system I am sure something similiar came up. Sorry, I have no idea what thread. Hopefully someone will come along and help you out more. Hi all, been busy lately so just got around trying to solve the problems of this AVX380 with Comet today, well in my case the cosmetic damage to 1 of the speakers complicates things. The people who had their HT-R380 AV receiver fixed, do you contact Comet, Genserve, or Onkyo to get it fixed?
Which way is the best way to proceed? Any charges/fees for any of the methods? And do you have to send everything back to them or just the actual HT-R380 AV receiver? And how do you package it for sending away safely? And how long did it take for them to fix it?
I called my local Comet store, but already having a hard time trying to get them to sort out the cosmetic damage to 1 of the speakers without having to bring the whole package in, it's very hard to pack everything safely and so well wrapped like originally, and I worry about causing more damage to other speakers/subwoofer, so only wanted to bring the 1 speaker with the scrape marks, also the box is the size of a dishwasher so won't fit in my car. I also asked them about the HT-R380 AV receiver problems, they say they also just wrap it up and send it to Genserve for repairs, so that makes me think that wrapping it myself(provided I can find the right packaging materials) and arrange a pickup with Genserve is probaly the safest way, just don't trust Comet staff to handle my AV receiver carefully enough, causing more damage to it.
Any advice anyone?
